In 1995, Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder left the stage due to illness after only seven songs during an outdoor concert in San Francisco. Neil Young stepped up to finish the show.
In 1999, With 100 of his guitars at auction to raise money for his Crossroads Centre drug rehab clinic in Antigua, Eric Clapton raised almost $5 million. The guitar he used on “Layla,” a 1956 Fender Stratocaster, went for nearly $500,000.
In 2004, A Fender Strat that Clapton nicknamed Blackie, sold at auction for $959,500, making it the most expensive guitar in the world. The proceeds went towards Slowhand’s Crossroads addiction clinic.
In 2014, A working draft of Bob Dylan’s “Like A Rolling Stone” set a record at auction after selling for $2 million. The manuscript was written in pencil in 1965.
In 2016, A US jury found that Led Zeppelin did not copy the opening chords of “Stairway To Heaven” from Spirit’s 1967 song “Taurus,” saying that the riff was not “intrinsically similar.” Defense lawyers had argued the chord progression in question was very common and had been in use for more than 300 years. The case was reopened in 2019, and Led Zeppelin won again.
