Did you know a Wonderwall is an imaginary friend who is meant to comfort and save oneself? Although this is the technical definition of a wonderwall, the word is known around the world as the title of the biggest hit song of the '90s Britpop band Oasis.
Oasis was formed in 1991 in the working-class English city of Manchester by schoolmates Liam Gallagher, Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs, Paul “Guigsy” McGuigan, and Tony McCarroll. The band was fully formed once Liam brought his older brother, Noel Gallagher, to join the band after he had returned from working as a roadie on an Inspiral Carpets tour. Noel took control of the creative direction of the band and began writing their songs and playing lead guitar.
The combination of Liam’s raspy vocals and Noel’s anthemic lyrics launched Oasis into stardom. Their debut 1994 album Definitely, Maybe was the fastest-selling debut album in British history and topped the charts. But it was their second album, (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? that turned them into the pinnacle of the Britpop movement in the 90s. Hits like “Wonderwall” and “Don’t Look Back in Anger” became staples of British music.
Oasis continued their upward trend towards success by releasing seven more albums and selling out concerts and festivals like Knebworth and Glastonbury.
Liam was known for having a rock n roll swagger on stage and in interviews, and while this entertained fans, it agitated Noel. The brothers’ famous constant bickering culminated in 2009. Backstage before the brothers were supposed to go on stage for Rock En Seine, Liam and Noel had their final fight. The show was canceled, and Noel quit the band, claiming that he “simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer”. It all started in Manchester, and it all ended in Paris (or so we thought).
Since the 2009 breakup, the Gallagher brothers pursued other projects (Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds & Liam Gallagher’s Beady Eyes and solo work). They released new music separately but continued to fight with each other with creative insults online – one particularly noteworthy tweet was Liam referring to his older brother as a potato.
In 2025, with mounting speculation amongst fans around the world, Oasis announced that the great wait was over and that the Mancunian band would be reuniting for a tour. The only way to describe these shows? Biblical. The band sold out the world’s biggest venues in minutes, and fans not only spent their hard-earned cash on nearly impossible tickets to obtain (Liam saying at one show, “Hello to those in the cheap seats. Oh, wait, there are no cheap seats, sorry about that"), they donned their Adidas gear, bucket hats and ponchos. It almost felt like the 1990s all over again. No Wonderwall needed – those shows were chock-a-block full of fans turned friends uniting in joy at seeing their favorite band back together for the first time in years.
Now Oasis is returning to the stage for a 2027 tour. The concert dates begin May 21 in Glasgow and conclude on September 19 in Knebworth. The only U.S. shows will take place in Las Vegas and Boston during August. The rest of the dates will be throughout Europe in Manchester, Munich, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Paris, Rome, and Slane Castle.

While waiting for the Live ‘27 tour to begin, you can boost your love of Oasis by watching their new documentary, Oasis: Don’t Look Back in Anger. The movie puts aside the journey that the band took to get where they are now. Instead, it focuses on their 2025 reunion tour and the fans that made the tour possible.
It starts right where the band left off, playing music. First, Noel practices on his guitar with the rest of the band members practicing on their respective instruments. Everyone in the movie theater and the band members themselves wait on the edge of their seats, impatiently awaiting the arrival of Liam and how he will react upon greeting Noel. Eventually Liam arrives and takes his place in front of the mic, his signature hands behind him, crouching a bit, gazing up, as if he's worshiping the mic itself.
Once band practice ends, the tour begins. As much as the film is a glimpse into the lives of the Gallagher brothers, it also takes time to interview Oasis fans.
Through these people and their experiences, the lasting impact this band has had on the world becomes apparent not only to the film’s viewers, but to the band as well. The lasting impact that this English band despite the typical Englishness of Oasis, people in America, Japan, Brazil, and elsewhere have been touched by their Britpop tunes.
