In 1969, David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” was released just ahead of the first Apollo moon landing.
In 1970, Three Dog Night started a two-week run at #1 in the US with their version of Randy Newman’s “Mama Told Me (Not To Come).”
In 1971, The Bruce Springsteen Band opened for Humble Pie in Asbury Park, New Jersey. After the show, Humble Pie’s Peter Frampton told Springsteen and the band he’d like to have them open for Humble Pie on a national tour, and that he would be happy to get the band an audition with his record label, A&M Records. For no logical reason Springsteen’s manager at the time declined both offers on the spot.
In 1975, Fleetwood Mac’s second self-titled album was released. The first album to include Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, it featured “Rhiannon,” “Say You Love Me,” “Over My Head,” and “Landslide.”
In 2014, Producer and drummer Tommy Ramone of Ramones died at 65 following unsuccessful treatment for bile duct cancer.
