The SoCal Sound In-Studio Session with Dear Boy is brought to you by The SoCal Sound, CSUN & Saddleback College.
Join The SoCal Sound's host of Late Night Snacks, Byron Gonzalez, in conversation with Ben Grey and Austin Hayman of Dear Boy!
In this interview, the members of Dear Boy talk about their debut album 'Forever Sometimes,' including their creative timeline and how they pieced it together. They even give us the inside scoop about how they chose their cover art. Grey and Hayman discuss their experience playing bigger shows as time passes, including their recent concerts at The Troubadour.
When asked whether the band listened to other artists while creating this album, Grey answered, "I don't answer for us all, but I feel like when we're making a record, I don't listen to a lot of other stuff while we're doing it just because… I think a lot of people say this… but you're in it so much that you don't want to do anything like a concerted choice to sound like somebody. I think we all have sort of a shared pool of things that we all love, and they are in our DNA now, so we articulate them in a way that is personal to us, and then that's how we put it all together."
This SoCal Sound In-Studio Session with Dear Boy includes live performances of "The Nominee," "Say When," and "Forever Sometimes."
Dear Boy will play The El Rey Theatre on October 28th.
