1976 was a strange year for Neil Young. He went out on the road to tour with both Crazy Horse and with the short lived Stills-Young Band. Although his Stills-Young Band tour turned out to be a bit of a disaster (he dropped out halfway through the tour), his shows with Crazy Horse are widely revered. Part of the reason is the shows setup - Neil would come out to perform a solo acoustic set before being joined by Crazy Horse. Neil built his fanbase on his ability to sound incredible both as a solo guitarist and as a rocking bandleader.
On Songs For Judy, his new 22-song LP out on Friday (vinyl will be available December 14th), you hear all sides of Neil Young. You hear him with Crazy Horse rocking behind him. You hear the gorgeous acoustic songs like "Needle And The Damage Done". You even hear some of his more interesting political songs like "Campaigner". This is the first time this particular era of Neil Young has been released from his massive vault of live material. Check out "Campaigner" below for a feel on how the rest of these rare and unreleased live cuts sound.
